The moon's gaze was eerie, bleeding through the thick canopies whispering above. Long limbs pulled my body forth through the obsidian-painted trees. Rough hooves gently picked their way across the unkempt ground. An indignant snort came from my flared nostrils. I shook out my mane, the dark tresses falling straight down my thick neck. I much liked the nighttime. All the other equines were tucked pleasantly away for the duration of the dark period. This meant more time alone to myself. To enjoy and relish. Vermilion optics peered ahead, wary of any unnatural movements. Giving off a grunt I stopped, ears swiveling upon my skull to hone in on nature's constant noise. Cricket chirped in the distance or in the bushes a few feet away, the rustling of leaves but a minor noise in the composition of nature's bedlam.
I stood at attention for quite some time, whip dancing calmly behind me, wisps of inky black hair trailing along my pale emerald hind legs. Nothing threatened to give chase or cause problems, however, so I continued onward, trailing deeper into the hardly traveled woods. As I moved deeper I caught silver glimpses from the corners of my eyes. Like an illusion, however, if you looked it would fade away like a dream. Curiosity drove me further, and when the branches thinned out above, more of the silver flickers could be spotted. I stepped in the glare of pale moonlight streaming in a ray across the ground, the color washing across my body and illuminating. A spider's web was intricately woven into a nearby tree's anatomy, the wind causing it no disturbance. I had never ventured into these woods, save when passing through to somewhere else. Neither have I actually paid attention to the ominous details presented before me. Turning my head around I could see even more webs weaved into the structure of the woods.
It was quite a fascinating sight. I admired the time it must have taken for the eight-legged beasts to make their homes. A blur obstructed my vision just then. I had to nearly go cross-eyed just to see it. 'It' in question is a solitary spider, suspended from a string of web. It's legs rose slowly, the others following suit. It was as if the arachnid was dancing to some unheard beat. I didn't mind spiders, though the amount of them in one area was unsettling. I could see the dark form of another spider scurrying up my leg. Lifting the leg I shook off the nuisance. More could be felt along my back. Snorting and flicking my ears in annoyance I leaped forth. Twisting and winding my way through the trees I shook my torso, throwing my head up to shake out my mane once more. Cool air slid across my green coat, chilly fingers prodding as I continued to trot through the woods apparently occupied by many spiders. It was not the fact that they were spiders, for those little creatures did not bother me. That being said, I don't much like an abundance of them crossing along me like some bridge. With the masses of them I would have felt like I was suffocating if I didn't leave before it got worse. Ignoring the encounter that had just happened, I slowed myself to a brisk trot, enjoying the pleasant silence that hung around my slinking form.
I slowed to a stop, then, in the tall grasses of the clearing. Their tips tickled along my under belly, brief hints of the vegetation lying beneath my hooves. Arching my neck I peered upon the expanse of sky. The never ending canvas was sprinkled with white shimmers of light. The stars were clear, clouds not able to touch the existence of stars. I blinked, eyeing the lands around me in boredom. Normally I didn't get too bored around here, able to venture the lands unclaimed and find some form of entertainment to occupy my mind and time. Flicking my tail I propelled myself forward again, head lowered slightly as I listened carefully. Something would come along eventually I am quite sure. I didn't ponder too much upon it, choosing to let things happen rather than expect them to. Nothing really gets accomplished that way. I parted from the clearing and made my way back into the thick wall of trees. I kept an eye on any spiders, though they seemed to be higher up and keeping to themselves so I kept moving.

Arsenic rarely wandered far from the lands of her herd, but there were times when a trek across the neutral lands was much needed. The walk generally proved to be straining on the small horse, but that never stopped her. She always enjoyed it. She was quite the beautiful beast. Her coat a shimmering white, barely marred by a small splattering of black across the curve of her neck. Her mane and tail were the brightest of reds, standing in high contrast against that of her body. Her eyes were the true capturing point of the small femme; however, the deep pits of black showed something that could not be seen elsewhere. An almost cruel yearning for something or another lingered in those eyes.
Tonight she found herself wandering around the Silk Forest. She had often been told about its habitants, the spiders that made their homes here. It was a most glorious place in her opinion, and the glimmering webs of the spiders only made it seem more surreal in her eyes. She was moving slowly, taking time with each step that she took, caring not which direction she was going in. It didn’t take long before she reached a small clearing. A sliver of light was shining down from the moon, and as she stepped into it, it cast a ghostly glow against her white pelt. She shook her mane softly as she glanced around. She could feel the small legs of the spiders as the tittered across her body.
She craned her head to the side, her coal shaded eyes gazing upon the small creatures that contrasted so greatly against her coat. At times she longed to have a life such as theirs. She was sure that the small creatures didn’t live for long, but she doubted they worried for much either. ”You don’t have a care in the world, do you?” she asked the arachnids in her soft voice, knowing she would receive no answer. Returning her head to look forward, she shook her torso, removing the spiders from her body as she continued to move forward, her pace still slow.
It was times like this that Arsenic had to stop and question why she didn’t just leave the heard and come to live on her own. She no longer had need of any of the others, she did little to nothing with them. Sighing lightly and shaking her head, she knew deep inside of her that she would never be able to do that, not without good reason. As she was shaking her head, something caused her to pause and glance around. Not far in the distance, she saw a stallion, it didn’t seem as if he had noticed her as of yet, but she couldn’t be completely sure. Remaining still, she eyed the brute, wondering if she should turn away, or stay where she was.
